11 die from measles in 24hrs
Eleven more people have died from measles and suspected measles across the country in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of deaths linked to the outbreak to 409 since March 15.
Of the latest deaths, four were confirmed measles cases, while seven were recorded as suspected measles deaths, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services control room on Sunday.
DGHS said 65 people have so far died from confirmed measles, while 344 others have died from suspected measles since March 15.
The total death toll rose from 352 the previous day to 409 following the inclusion of updated data on 57 suspected deaths.
According to DGHS, data from Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal were reconciled with information from the respective Civil Surgeons’ offices.
In the last 24 hours, 1,503 suspected measles patients were recorded across the country. Since March 15, the total number of suspected measles patients has reached 49,159.
During the same period, 205 confirmed measles cases were recorded, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 6,819.
DGHS said the number of confirmed cases decreased following data correction from Dinajpur district.
Since March 15, a total of 34,909 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals. Of them, 30,862 have recovered and been discharged.
