Dipu Moni, Babu and Rupa to face trial

Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam has announced that former Foreign Minister Dipu Moni along with journalists Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa will be interrogated on allegations of concealing information about the massacre at Shapla Chattar. He made this statement while speaking with journalists in the conference room of his office on Thursday.

The Chief Prosecutor said that for the sake of the investigation of this case, it is necessary to interrogate Farzana Rupa, Mozammel Babu and Dipu Moni. For this reason, production warrants have been sought against them. The tribunal has directed all three to appear on May 14. If their involvement is found, they will be made accused in this case.

He said that immediately after this horrific massacre on May 5, 2013, misleading information was deliberately spread through an investigative report titled “Samikoron” (Equation) on a private television channel. That report attempted to create the impression that no casualties had occurred at Shapla Chattar.

The Chief Prosecutor said that Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa had a unique role in concealing the true events of Shapla Chattar. They also attempted to hide the information about the deaths.

This effort of theirs was part of a systematic attack. They implemented the methodical work according to a pre-planned scheme. Because the reports they broadcast had absolutely no truth in them whatsoever. The individuals who were interviewed were highly controversial.

He said that in the investigation of this case we have found some new information. Among this, an investigative report named “Samikoron” was broadcast by Farzana Rupa. In that report, an interview of then Foreign Minister Dipu Moni is found.

Additionally, we have also found the involvement of journalist Mozammel Babu. The report was broadcast immediately after the incident. Where an event that shook the entire country occurred. And to take that event in a completely different direction, Farzana Rupa broadcast misleading information by taking statements from some controversial individuals.
