‘No extortion to be tolerated at cattle mkts’

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has issued a stern warning that no form of extortion will be tolerated in connection with the upcoming Qurbani cattle markets. He said that if any incident of extortion occurs, strict action will be taken immediately.

He made these remarks on Wednesday morning after inspecting the Gabtoli cattle market in the capital.

He stated that the government will maintain a strict stance against extortion on roads during the transportation of Qurbani animals, and if any such complaint is received, swift action will be taken.
The State Minister said that plans have already been made to control traffic congestion and maintain order around the upcoming Qurbani.

As part of this, instructions have been given that cattle markets cannot be set up alongside railway lines and roads under any circumstances. Special attention will also be given to ensuring that people do not face difficulties and that traffic congestion does not occur during the transportation of animals.

He further stated that members of law enforcement forces will be on duty to ensure the security of the markets. Alongside police, RAB and the army will also be present in the field. Special measures will be taken including setting up watchtowers in market areas and preventing the use of counterfeit money.
