Old man stabbed to death, 3 held

An elderly man, Ashu Mia, was stabbed to death in Hossainpur upazila of Kishoreganj on Monday evening following a dispute over drying paddy straw.

The incident took place in Daryabad village under Shahedal union of Hossainpur upazila.
The deceased, Md Ashu Miah (65), son of Abdul Jabbar of Daryabad village, was attacked during a local dispute. Police have arrested three individuals suspected of involvement in the killing.

According to locals and police sources, Ashu Miah had an altercation with his cousin in the evening over placing paddy straw on the road beside his house. At one stage, he was stabbed, leaving him seriously injured.

Locals rescued him and took him to Hossionpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hossionpur Police Station Muhammad Rashedul Islam said, “The murder occurred over a dispute involving straw. Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.”

He added that the body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy, and legal proceedings are underway.
