Probe going slowly against River Police OC
The investigation into allegations of extortion, irregularities, and abuse of power against OC A H M Lutful Kabir of the River Police outpost is progressing at a snail’s pace.
A H M Lutful Kabir is currently serving as the Officer-in-Charge at the Mongla River Police in Bagerhat. Local businessman Rafiqul Islam recently lodged a complaint with Manzur Morshed, Superintendent of Police of the Khulna Region River Police.
Rafiqul Islam told Manzur Morshed, “Despite repeated media reports, there are still allegations of illegal money collection in the ghat area as before. We ordinary businessmen are suffering greatly.”
River vessel worker Alamgir Hossain told The New Nation, “When we go to work at the ghat, we face various kinds of pressure. As a result, we are regularly encountering problems, and it is becoming difficult to continue our work.”
Responding to the allegations, Inspector A H M Lutful Kabir denied all claims, saying, “The allegations brought against me are completely baseless and motivated. I am performing my duties in accordance with the law. If any member is involved in irregularities, action will definitely be taken against them.”
Meanwhile, Manzur Morshed, Superintendent of Police of the Khulna Region River Police, stated, “The matter is under investigation. If the allegations are found to be true, necessary departmental action will be taken.”
