Slain Limon’s body returns home from USA

The body of Jamil Ahmed Limon, a Bangladeshi student at the University of South Florida who was killed in a tragic incident in Tampa, Florida, arrived in Bangladesh on Thursday at 08:40 local time.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, MP, received the body on behalf of the government at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and later handed it over to the family. The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment provided overall assistance during the reception and handover process.

Speaking at the airport, the state minister said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is maintaining regular contact with United States authorities to ensure a proper investigation into the killing. She expressed hope that the US government would complete a thorough inquiry and bring those responsible to justice.

She also said the government stands beside the families of both victims and assured them of necessary support in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.

According to official sources, Limon’s body was repatriated to Bangladesh on the evening of 2 May from Orlando International Airport in Florida. Officials from the Bangladesh Consulate General in Miami, including the Consul General, were present to oversee the repatriation process.

His funeral prayer was held on 30 April after Zuhr at the Islamic Society of Tampa Bay Area mosque.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to repatriate the body of another Bangladeshi student, Nahida Sultana Brishti, who was also killed in the same incident. Her body was identified following confirmation from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on 1 May.

After receiving consent from her family, the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami requested the Pinellas County Medical Examiner to release the body to a funeral home for repatriation. The body is currently under the custody of the funeral home, and arrangements are underway to send it to Bangladesh.

Her funeral prayer is scheduled for Wednesday, 6 May, with members of the Bangladeshi community expected to attend. Efforts are being made to secure a flight to repatriate the body on Thursday, 7 May.
Officials at the Bangladesh Consulate General in Miami and the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington are working jointly to complete the necessary formalities and ensure the earliest possible return of the deceased.
