Mirpur OC withdrawn after bribery allegation

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirpur Model Police Station in Dhaka has been withdrawn from his post following allegations of taking a Tk 5 lakh bribe from a woman business owner, according to official sources.

The action came shortly after a news report published on April 28 in The New Nation under the headline “OC accused of taking Tk 5 lakh bribe from woman in Mirpur.” According to an order signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner-in-Charge Md Sarwar on May 1, Police Inspector Mohammad Golam Azam has been attached to the DMP Headquarters Central Reserve Office and Administration Division for administrative reasons.

The allegation states that a woman businessman, Shamsad Ara Sathi, was allegedly called to Mirpur Model Police Station in connection with a dispute over a local market. She later accused the OC of taking Tk 5 lakh in two installments, reportedly in exchange for filing a case and arresting accused individuals.

The complainant had earlier submitted a written complaint to the DMP Commissioner on April 26.
Deputy Police Commissioner of Mirpur Division Md Mostak Sarkar confirmed the transfer, saying the OC has been attached to DMP headquarters and no replacement has yet been assigned.

Authorities have not issued further comments regarding the ongoing allegations.
