Govt retires 17 top police officials
The government has sent 17 senior Bangladesh Police officers, including Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs), into retirement through a gazette notification issued on Sunday.
The notification, issued by order of the President and signed by Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry’s Police-1 Branch Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, said the decision has been made in the public interest and is effective immediately.
Those retired include officers from various units such as the Anti-Terrorism Unit, Highway Police, CID, Police Headquarters, National Security Intelligence Directorate, Police Staff College, several Police Training Centres, Tourist Police, River Police, Railway Police, and others.
Among them are DIG Mofiz Uddin Ahmed of the Anti-Terrorism Unit, DIGs Imtiaz Ahmed, Md Rafiqul Hasan Gani and Rakhfar Sultana Khanam of Highway Police, DIGs Md Habibur Rahman and Md Majid Ali of CID, and DIGs Saleh Mohammad Tanvir and Kazi Zia Uddin of Police Headquarters.
Others include Md Harun-or-Rashid of the National Security Intelligence Directorate, S.M. Aktaruzzaman of Police Staff College, and several commandants and senior officers serving in different training and specialised units.
The notification stated that the retirement orders were issued under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018, and the officers will receive retirement benefits as per existing rules.
Earlier, on April 22, the government had also sent 13 senior police officers, including DIGs and Additional DIGs, into compulsory retirement.
