Police intervention foils plot to kill Chhatra Dal leader in Sylhet
Police have claimed to have foiled a plot to kill a Chhatra Dal leader at Excelsior Sylhet Hotel and Resort (Zakaria City) in the Khadim area of Sylhet. Sylhet Metropolitan Police has also stated that legal action has been taken against those who planned and were involved in this murder plot.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Manjurul Alam informed this in a press release at around three in the afternoon on Friday (1 May).
He stated that in the wake of a dispute centring around the occupation of Excelsior Sylhet Hotel and Resort (Zakaria City), one side hired contract terrorists to kill the other side.
The opposing party conspired in a planned manner to attack and kill lessee Rahat Chowdhury and his associates. For this purpose, they hired a person named Sujan and also communicated via mobile phone regarding the murder plan. Upon receiving information about the matter, SMP police took swift action.
On the evening of 28 April, when the accused attempted to enter the resort, Shahparan Police Station police arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control, and foiled their plan. Upon noticing the presence of police, the accused left the scene. Meanwhile, a case was filed at Shahparan (Rh.) Police Station on the basis of a written complaint submitted by the victim.
On the basis of the complaint, the main accused involved in the murder plot, Masukur Rahman (45), was arrested. As he was already arrested in another case previously, he has been shown as under “show arrest.” At the same time, operations are continuing to identify and arrest other those involved.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus stated that police are always vigilant in maintaining law and order. A zero tolerance policy is being followed against any kind of terrorist activity, extortion, or occupation. Criminals will be swiftly brought under the purview of the law.
