Ex-MP Moslem Uddin dies

Advocate Moslem Uddin, a veteran Bangladesh Awami League leader and former five-time Member of Parliament from Mymensingh-6 (Fulbaria), has died at the age of 88.

He breathed his last at around 11:30am on Saturday while receiving treatment at Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital in the capital, family members said. He had been admitted there with complications related to old age.

Moslem Uddin had long been associated with politics and legal practice. He served as president of Fulbaria Upazila Awami League, was a former member of the Constituent Assembly, and also held the post of president of the Mymensingh District Lawyers’ Association.

He was elected to parliament from the Mymensingh-6 constituency on the Awami League ticket in 1986, 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2018.

He leaves behind three sons, two daughters and numerous relatives, colleagues and admirers.

According to his son Imdadul Haque Selim, the first namaz-e-janaza will take place at Taqwa Mosque in Dhanmondi after Zuhr prayers on Sunday.

Later, janaza prayers will also be held at 10:00am at Mymensingh District Bar Association, at 3:00pm on the grounds of Fulbaria Government High School, and at 5:00pm at Alhaj Md Moslem Uddin Orphanage ground.

Following the funeral prayers, the veteran politician will be laid to rest at his family graveyard in his ancestral village of Newgi Kushmail.
