Measles claims 5 lives in 24hrs

Five more children have died from measles and related symptoms across the country within a 24-hour period-from Sunday 8:00 am to Monday 8:00 am. Among them, one child had a confirmed measles infection, while the other four showed symptoms consistent with the disease.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, a total of 1,358 children developed measles-like symptoms during the same period. The data was published in the latest measles situation report.

The confirmed measles death occurred in Sylhet. The remaining four deaths-linked to symptoms-were reported from Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Sylhet.

Since March 15, a total of 220 children have died with measles-like symptoms nationwide. During the same period, 44 children have died after confirmed measles infections.

Health data shows that since March 15, 33,386 children have developed measles symptoms across the country. Of them, 22,442 required hospitalization.

Encouragingly, 19,018 children have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

The health authority also reported that 4,693 children have been officially diagnosed with measles during this period, highlighting the growing scale of the outbreak and increasing pressure on pediatric healthcare facilities.
