Youth gets 1yr in prison for giving proxy in SSC exams

A youth named Md. Tafsir Islam (19) was arrested for appearing as a proxy candidate in the SSC examination in Ujirpur Upazila of Barishal and was sentenced to one year in prison by a mobile court.

The convicted Tafsir Islam is the son of Liakat Sikder from the Hastishund area of Bamrail Union in the upazila. The incident has created a sensation in the examination centre area.

It is learned that on Tuesday at the Dhamura Secondary School examination centre in Ujirpur Upazila, he appeared in the SSC examination pretending to be another candidate as a proxy.

Later, after verification, his identity was confirmed and he was arrested.

Following the arrest, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Maheshwar Mandal conducted a mobile court and sentenced him to one year of imprisonment along with a fine of Tk 100 under the relevant section of the Public Examinations (Offences) Act, 1980 (amended in 1989).

In this regard, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Maheshwar Mandal said, “Public examinations are very important. Such irregularities and fraud will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Strict action will continue to be taken to maintain a fair examination environment.”
