Indian goods worth over Tk 30 lakh seized in Satkhira

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian sarees, narcotics, shrimp fry, mobile phone speakers and other goods worth over Taka 30 lakh in a special anti-smuggling operation along different border areas of Satkhira.

According to BGB sources, the coordinated operations conducted under the jurisdiction of Kankdanga, Kushkhali, Madra, Padmashakhra and Toluigacha Border out Posts (BOPs) in Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa upazilas.

Based on intelligence information, a special team from Kankdanga BOP recovered Indian saree from Gerakhali in Kalaroa upazila, reports BSS.

In separate drives, teams from Kushkhali BOP seized 5.2 kg of marijuana, one motorcycle and a mobile phone from Shmashan Ghat and Chhaygharia areas of Satkhira Sadar upazila.

Madra BOP personnel recovered Indian-made Sildenafil tablets from Shmashan Ghat area of Kalaroa upazila during another operation.

Padmashakhra BOP teams seized Indian shrimp fry from Harddah Jora Talgach and Pallisree Ambagan areas in Sadar upazila.

In a separate operation, Toluigacha BOP seized an Indian mobile phone speaker from Majumdarer Khal area.

The total estimated market value of the seized goods is Taka 3,042,700, BGB confirmed.

Satkhira BGB-33 Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Kazi Ashikur Rahman confirmed the seizures, saying that the recovered goods have been handed over to Satkhira Customs authorities.

The narcotics were deposited with the Department of Narcotics Control following a general diary and will later be stored for public destruction.
