Tigers make history to win over Kiwis in 1st T20I

Bangladesh Cricket team made history after defeating New Zealand Cricket team by six wickets in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) match at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenat Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.

Bangladesh chased their highest target in a T20I match at their home ground. Tawhid Hridoy played the key role to trail the Kiwis’ innings. He remained unbeaten with 51. His 27-ball innings was ornamented with three sixes and two fours. Hridoy was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Chasing the Kiwis’ mammoth total of 182 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, the Tigers coasted home making 183 for the loss of four wickets when they had two overs in their hands.

Bangladesh had a solid start with two openers Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan put up together 41 runs in the opening stand before Saif Hassan (17) was caught at the deep midwicket by Bevon Jacobs off Nathan Smith.

After Saif’s dismissal, one-down Litton Das (21) could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was bowled out by Ish Sodhi when the hosts’ total was 66 for the loss of two wickets.

Opener Tanzid Hasan’s innings was short-lived as he (20) was caught at the long-off by Nathan Smith off Ish Sodhi when Bangladesh’s score was 77 for the loss of three wickets.

After Tanzid’s departure, Tawhid Hridoy and Parvez Hossain Emon rescued their team danger contributing together 57 runs in the four-wicket stand before Emon was caught at the long-off by Tim Robinson off Josh Clarkson when Bangladesh’s total was 134 for the loss of four wickets.

Emon hammered a hurricane 28. His 14-ball innings was belted with two sixes and a four.

After Emon’s departure, Tawhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain powered their team to reach the victory target making together 49 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership when the Tigers’ innings came to an end with a joyful success.

Shamim remained unbeaten with 31. His typhoon 13-ball knock was decorated with two sixes and three fours.

Sodhi picked up two wickets in the space of 40 runs.
Earlier, one-down Dane Cleaver, opener Katane Clarke, Nick Kelly and Josh Clarkson shone with the willow.

Dane Cleaver struck 51. His 28-ball innings was laced with seven fours and a sixer.
Clarke also notched up 51. He hit seven fours and a six in his 37-ball knock.

Kelly made 39 from 27 deliveries featuring five fours and a sixer, while Clarkson remained unbeaten with 27. His 14-ball innings had two fours and a sixer.

Rishad Hossain captured two wickets in the space of 32 runs, while Mahedi Hasan, Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan picked up one wicket each for 31, 36 and 40 runs respectively.
