Full budget backing for Family Card project

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Monday reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to the Family Card project, stating that adequate funding will be ensured in the upcoming national budget to sustain and expand the initiative.

Speaking to reporters after a progress review meeting at the Ministry of Finance in Dhaka, the minister said the government is determined to address early implementation challenges and strengthen the programme for long-term success.

“We are identifying initial shortcomings and taking corrective measures to make the project more effective,” he said.

Describing the Family Card initiative as a flagship programme of the current administration, he noted that it holds a central place in national policy planning.

According to him, the next fiscal budget will include all necessary allocations to ensure the smooth continuation and expansion of the project.

“Budget will not be a constraint for this programme,” the minister emphasised, adding that the government is ready to provide whatever financial support is required to meet its objectives.

He underscored the importance of the initiative in strengthening the country’s social safety net system, ensuring that benefits reach targeted groups efficiently and without disruption.

The project, he said, represents a key policy tool aimed at improving support for vulnerable populations.
The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance coordination among implementing agencies and streamline service delivery mechanisms.

These steps, he added, are expected to minimise errors and improve transparency in the distribution process.

He expressed optimism that with continued reforms and oversight, the Family Card project will evolve into a more robust and efficient system. “Our goal is to build a nearly flawless service delivery mechanism through continuous improvement and coordination,” he said.

Reiterating the government’s broader development vision, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the successful execution of the Family Card project will remain a cornerstone of its commitment to social welfare and inclusive growth.
