2nd Jamuna bridge feasibility study underway

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam on Sunday said that a feasibility study for the construction of a second Jamuna Bridge is currently underway.

He made the statement while responding to a query from MP Mustafizur Rahman Babul in Parliament.
The minister said that possible alignments are being considered for the proposed bridge, including one between Sariakandi upazila of Bogura and Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur, and another from Balasi Ghat in Gaibandha to Dewanganj Ghat in Jamalpur. He added that any other suitable corridor may also be selected based on the study findings.

He said the final alignment will be determined after completion of the feasibility study.

The minister noted that the “Second Jamuna Bridge Construction” project is part of the government’s election commitments. He also said the existingfour-lane Jamuna Bridge often faces traffic congestion, making an alternative crossing necessary.

He further informed Parliament that the master plan of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority has recommended implementing the second Jamuna Bridge by 2033.
