PM for careful use of taxpayers’ money
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has issued a series of firm directives aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline and accountability in government development projects.
According to State Minister for Planning, Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, the Prime Minister instructed that all proposed development initiatives must be carefully reviewed to ensure they are consistent with the government’s election manifesto and broader development strategies focused on improving the welfare of the general public.
The remarks were made by the State Minister while speaking to reporters following a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), held at the Cabinet Division and chaired by the Prime Minister.
Zonayed Saki noted that the Prime Minister’s guidance on the management of public funds was unequivocal.
He said the government has been directed to exercise prudence in spending, with strict assessments of the necessity and eligibility of each expenditure before approval is granted.
He added that this approach reflects a move towards tighter oversight in the allocation of taxpayers’ money across sectors.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated that the principal objective of all development projects must be to enhance the quality of life for citizens.
In line with this, the State Minister confirmed that an ongoing process of auditing and reviewing projects is underway to ensure alignment with national priorities.

d the Prime Minister had ordered investigations into the causes behind several stalled or slow-moving initiatives.
He further stated that the Prime Minister provided detailed observations on a number of project proposals, stressing that development efforts must be sustainable, environmentally responsible, and ultimately beneficial to the public.
