Primary teacher candidates protest in Shahbag
Recommended candidates for the post of primary assistant teachers staged fresh protests in Shahbag on Sunday, demanding immediate issuance of their appointment letters.
The protesters brought out a procession from in front of the Bangladesh National Museum around 10:00am. Police later stopped them from proceeding to the main road, after which they continued their demonstration in front of the museum.
At the time of reporting, a tense situation prevailed as police and protesters remained in a face-off while the demonstration continued.
The demonstrators raised slogans including “No more promises, we want implementation,” “We want to return to classrooms,” and “We will not leave without appointment letters.”
They said they were recommended for recruitment about two and a half months ago but have not yet received their appointment letters or any official communication.
The protesters alleged that the authorities are delaying their appointments and vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are fulfilled.
