BNP leader Abdul Quddus dies at 76

Md Abdul Quddus, a member of the BNP chairperson’s advisory council and a freedom fighter, has passed away at the age of 76.

He breathed his last on Saturday afternoon while receiving intensive care at a hospital in Dhaka after a prolonged illness, according to Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP’s media cell.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held after Asr in front of the party’s central office in the capital’s Naya Paltan.

Family members said his second and final funeral prayers will take place in his native village in Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh after Zohr prayers on Sunday. He will be laid to rest in the family graveyard.

Quddus was a former teacher and served as a deputy superintendent in the Department of Ophthalmology at Bangladesh Medical University.

He also headed a pro-BNP organisation and worked closely with Khaleda Zia during her tenure as party chief.
