The chair of the General Secretary (GS) of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association has been the centre of discussion for past few years.

The scramble for the chair by Zayed Khan, Nipun Akhter and Dipjol was remarkable.

The three actors faced various criticisms in various incidents of their fight for the GS’s chair, which generated various jokes among common people.

In the end, the term of the elected committee of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association for the 2024-26 term ended quietly without that ‘General Secretary’.

General Secretary Monowar Hossain Dipjol was not seen at the BFDC for almost the entire duration of the current committee. He was not even present at the association’s events.

The problem started a month after the elections of Film Artistes’ Association when Nipun, who lost the post of general secretary, filed a writ seeking a ban on her from performing the duties of the elected committee.

After that, Dipjol and Nipun started criticising each other.

The scenario changed after the July 2024 movement. After the fall of the Awami League government, both Dipjol and Nipun went into hiding.

President Misha Sawdagor has also been quiet. He has spent half of his term abroad.

He was also absent from the last executive meeting of the current committee on April 22.

There are even doubts about whether he will participate in the next elections.

In the absence of the president and general secretary, two executive members Rumana Islam Mukti and Sony Rahman played a leading role in various activities of this committee of the association.

Together with the rest of the committee members, they have tried to continue the activities of the association.

Even after the last meeting of the association, Mukti stood by the president and general secretary.

She said, “Our general secretary is very ill, he has serious eye problems. He is out of the country for treatment.

On the other hand, the president has to keep coming and going in the country because his entire family lives out of the country.

However, all the decisions of the association have been taken after discussing with the president.

Apart from this, the president has given the responsibility to Vice-president DA Tayeb Bhai before going abroad.”

Mukti said that despite the absence of the president and general secretary, the work of the Artistes’ Association has not stopped.

Meanwhile, Mukti and Sony Rahman have both announced that they will contest the next election.

Mukti will contest for the post of General Secretary and Sony for the post of Organising Secretary.

On the other hand, Joy Chowdhury, the Organising Secretary of the last committee, has announced that he will contest for the post of GS as Mukti’s rival.

Mukti said, “I have decided to participate in the elections to stand by the artistes.

I will try to do whatever is necessary for the artistes. The first goal will be to arrange housing for the members of the association who live in rented houses.”
