DMP intensifies citywide ‘Block Raid’ drives

Law enforcement agencies have intensified block raid operations in crime-prone areas of the capital in an effort to maintain law and order and ensure public safety. Authorities said firm action is being taken against those involved in offences such as terrorism, extortion, drug trafficking and snatching. At the same time, updated lists of suspected offenders are being prepared to further strengthen policing measures.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) NM Nasiruddin said the operations have been stepped up across vulnerable areas of the city.

“Block raid operations have been intensified in crime-prone areas of the capital to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of lives and property. The operation will continue to curb crime and bring offenders swiftly under the law,” he said.

In a recent drive conducted by the DMP’s Tejgaon Division, 54 individuals were arrested on suspicion of involvement in various crimes. The operations covered areas under Mohammadpur, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Adabor, Tejgaon, Tejgaon Industrial Area and Hatirjheel police stations.

According to DMP data, a total of 9,259 people were arrested in March this year in connection with various offences, while 1,305 cases were filed across the capital. During the same period, 11 police stations accounted for 2,625 arrests. Among them, Mohammadpur Police Station recorded 674 arrests, Hazaribagh 494, New Market 51, Mirpur 469, Shahbagh 159, Bangshal 132, Lalbagh 128, Uttara West 234, Dhanmondi 67 and Badda 115.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has continued its drives against drug trafficking, illegal arms, broker networks and food adulteration. According to its media wing, 627 people were arrested in February alongside 44 mobile court operations, while in March 852 people were arrested and 99 mobile courts were conducted.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) also reported significant enforcement activity. Its Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam said that smuggled goods worth Tk 165 crore 76 lakh 74 thousand were seized during operations in March.

Officials said law enforcement agencies, including Bangladesh Police, RAB, DMP, BGB and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), are maintaining a strict stance to prevent crime, violence and disorder across the country.
