4 lakh children to receive measles vaccine in Kishoreganj

An emergency Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign is set to begin today, targeting nearly 4 lakh children in Kishoreganj district.

According to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, a total of 3, 95,704 children across 13 upazilas and 8 municipalities will be brought under the Measles-Rubella Emergency Vaccination Campaign-2026.

Civil Surgeon (CS) of Kishoreganj, Dr. Ovijeet Sharma, announced the plan at a press conference held at his office conference room on Sunday afternoon.

The campaign will be conducted at 2,760 centers, including all government hospitals in the district. It will run for 11 working days, from May 20 to June 10.

All children aged between 6 months and 59 months will receive a dose of the measles-rubella vaccine during the drive. Children who have already received measles vaccines under routine immunisation programmes will still need to be vaccinated again as part of this campaign.

CS Dr. Ovijeet Sharma stressed the importance of timely vaccination, noting that measles and rubella are highly contagious diseases that can lead to serious complications in children.

He also said the campaign aims to achieve at least 95 percent coverage to ensure effective protection.
