Pahela Baishakh celebrated in Dhaka

Pahela Baishakh 1433 was celebrated with festive enthusiasm in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday, as the National Cultural Organisations Alliance and other cultural bodies jointly organised the traditional Bengali New Year celebrations.

The day-long programme began at 8am with the “Baishakhi Rally” from the National Press Club, which concluded at Ramna Park. Later in the morning, from 10am to 3pm, a Baishakhi fair and cultural programmes were held at Ramna Park. The event was organised under the slogan “New year, new dream, new awakening,” marking the first phase of the celebration titled “Baishakhi Celebration.” The rally at the Press Club was attended by members of the alliance, including Saiful Alam Khan Milon MP, Nurul Islam Bulbul MP, Kamal Hossain MP, and Delwar Hossain MP, along with prominent cultural personalities.

Representatives from various cultural and social organisations were also present, including leaders from the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Cultural Academy, Mahangar Shilpi Goshthi, Rajdhani Shilpi Goshthi, Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, Bangladesh Sangskriti Kendra, Bangladesh Sangit Parishad, Kabita Bangladesh, Bangladesh Charukala Parishad, among others. Participants carried traditional banners, posters, musical instruments, and wore traditional attire symbolising Bengali heritage.

After the rally, the second phase of the celebration took place at the ektara sculpture in front of Ramna Park’s main gate, where cultural performances, patriotic songs, poetry recitations, storytelling, drama, and other performances were held.

The programme was attended by notable cultural figures including Bishishto Bawichik Shilpi Sharif Baizid Mahmud, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy president Mahbubul Mukul, and Hasan Habib Khan.
Organisers said the celebration of Pahela Baishakh is aimed at preserving Bengali heritage and culture while inspiring new generations to connect with tradition and creativity.
