DU gets new Pro-VC Abdus Salam
Prof. Abdus Salam of the Department of Chemistry has joined as the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of University of Dhaka (DU).
The government appointed him to the post on April 13 with the approval of President and Chancellor of the universities.
On the occasion of his joining a programme was held at Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom of the university on Wednesday, reports BSS.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. A B M Obaidul Islam welcomed the new Pro-Vice Chancellor and expressed firm commitment to working together for overall development of the university.
Praising the academic competence and experience of Prof. Salam, he hoped that the university’s education system would further advance under his leadership.
The VC said incorrect decisions in previous years had hindered expected progress in some cases. He called upon teachers, officers, and staff to ensure transparency and accountability in all areas of the administration.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof. Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha hoped that the appointment of Abdus Salam would bring new momentum in education and research.
Prof. Abdus Salam said he is honoured with the responsibility bestowed on him by the government. He sought everyone’s cooperation to discharge his duties properly.
Addressing the function the Vice-Chancellor expressed grief as a BRTC bus carrying university students met accident, injuring many of them. He wished their speedy recovery.
