BNP starts nominations for women MPs

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi distributes nomination papers to its woman leaders as the sale of nomination forms begin at the BNP central office of Nayapaltan in the capital on Friday.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially begun the sale and submission of nomination forms to select its candidates for the reserved women’s seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, marking a key step in its preparations for the next parliament.

The process started on Friday at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan. The inauguration of the nomination distribution was carried out by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at the programme, Rizvi said that interested candidates would be able to collect and submit nomination forms until April 12. Each form has been priced at Tk 2,000, while applicants are required to deposit Tk 50,000 as a security fee during submission.

Rizvi reiterated the party’s commitment to maintaining democratic continuity in the country. He said the BNP intends to select candidates for the reserved women’s seats from among those who faced repression and political persecution during the tenure of the Awami League.

He noted that many women leaders of the party had endured imprisonment and various forms of hardship while BNP remained in opposition.

“It is expected that the party’s nomination board will consider all relevant factors and choose qualified candidates,” he said, urging aspirants to respect the party’s final decisions.

Rizvi added that several criteria would guide the nomination process, including candidates’ roles in the July movement, their educational qualifications, political experience, and their ability to effectively articulate issues in parliament.
