Readers’ Voice: Alternative Energy
Every day, millions of vehicles travel on roads across the country, the vast majority powered by petrol or diesel. Imagine a radical shift – what if all vehicles ran on electricity instead?
The implications would extend far beyond quieter engines and cleaner streets, reshaping Bangladesh’s economy, energy security, and environmental future.
If vehicles were largely electrified, a significant portion of oil demand could be eliminated.
Oil markets are highly volatile, with wars, geopolitical tensions, sanctions, and supply disruptions causing price surges. Electrification would reduce this vulnerability.
Cleaner air would lower healthcare costs, improve productivity, and contribute to healthier cities.
Even partial electrification could significantly reduce oil imports, enhance air quality, and strengthen energy independence.
Instead of relying on imported crude oil, the country’s transport system could be powered by domestically generated electricity, particularly from renewable sources – cleaner, cheaper, and more secure.
