Measles claims 128 lives in BD

At least 21 children have died from confirmed measles infections in Bangladesh so far this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In addition to the confirmed fatalities, 128 children have died with symptoms consistent with measles, raising concerns among health authorities.

In the 24 hours from 8am Monday to 8am Tuesday, the DGHS recorded one confirmed death and 10 suspected measles-related deaths.

During the same period, 1,236 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country, while 224 cases were confirmed through laboratory testing.

DGHS data shows that between March 15 and April 7, a total of 1,398 measles cases have been laboratory-confirmed nationwide.

According to the latest health bulletin, 9,883 suspected measles cases have been identified across the country. Of them, 6,883 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment.
