Kamal new BSS MD
Senior journalist Kamal Uddin Majumder has been appointed managing director and chief editor of the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) for a one-year term.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Tuesday confirming his contractual appointment under the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Act, 2018. The tenure will be effective from the date of his joining.
According to the order, Majumder must relinquish all other professional engagements, including ties with government, semi-government, or private organisations, to assume the role.
Majumder, who holds Honours and Master’s degrees in English from Chittagong University, began his journalism career in 1985 with The Daily News. Most recently, he served as chief editor of Desh Rupantor.
Over the years, he has also worked with United News of Bangladesh (UNB) and previously at BSS. He has been an influential figure in the journalist community, having served twice as president and general secretary of the National Press Club.
The leadership change comes after a turbulent period at the national news agency.
Following the fall of the Awami League government in 2024, the interim administration had appointed journalist and author Mahbub Morshed as BSS managing director on Aug 18 for a two-year term.
