Jet fuel price hiked for April amid war

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission has raised jet fuel prices for April, increasing the domestic rate by Tk 25 per litre , citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Under the revised pricing, jet fuel for domestic flights has been set at Tk 227.08 per litre, inclusive of duty and VAT up from the previous Tk 202.29 per litre.

For international operations, the regulator fixed the price at $1.48 per litre, excluding duty and VAT, applicable to both local and foreign airlines.

The new rates were announced in a notification issued by BERC on Tuesday and will come into effect from midnight.

According to the regulator, the adjustment follows a comprehensive review process, including a public hearing, based on proposals submitted by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and Padma Oil Company Limited, in line with provisions of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003.

BERC said the revised pricing considered multiple factors, including the average international jet fuel rate between March 23 and April 4, exchange rate fluctuations for LC settlements by BPC, and increased transportation costs due to changes in diesel prices affecting coastal tankers and tank lorries.

Earlier, on March 24, the regulator had set the domestic jet fuel price at Tk 202.29 per litre, while the rate for international flights stood at $1.32 per litre.
