7,360-kg of banned polythene seized in N’ganj
In a special operation in Narayanganj, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized approximately 7,360 kilograms of banned polythene worth Tk 88 lakh. The information was confirmed on Sunday (April 5) by Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon.
According to him, acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted at around 5:00 AM on Friday near the Kanchpur Bridge area by Coast Guard Station Pagla. During the operation, a suspicious covered van was searched, leading to the seizure of about 7,360 kg of illegal polythene valued at Tk 88.32 lakh. The driver and his assistant were released after giving written undertakings, along with the vehicle. Later, the seized banned polythene was handed over to representatives of the Department of Environment in Narayanganj for further legal action.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon stated, “The Bangladesh Coast Guard regularly conducts such operations to protect the environment, and these efforts will continue in the future.”
