DU Rover Scout celebrates diamond jubilee
Dhaka University Rover Scout Group celebrated its diamond jubilee, marking 60 years, on Friday at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).
A two-day programme was organized to commemorate the occasion, featuring a range of activities, including a rally, flag hoisting, and the release of balloons and pigeons, reports media.
The event was inaugurated by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, who released balloons and pigeons at the TSC. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, MP, attended the programme as the chief guest.
The event was chaired by the president of the Rover Scout Group and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha. Among the special guests were Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Sarker, and Dhaka University Ex-Rover Scout Forum (DURSEF) president Mohammad Shahjahan.
Adviser to the Rover Scout Group, rofessor Md Ramjul Haque, spoke as a scout personality. Rover Scout Leader Dr Fatima Akter delivered the welcome address, while Member Secretary of the jubilee celebration committee Mohammad Zahir Ahmed Sarker gave the vote of thanks.
The programme was conducted by Rover Scout Leader Tanzina Binte Noor and Ex- Senior Rover Mate Mehedi Hasan.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the group’s significant contribution over the past six decades in nurturing disciplined, service-oriented and responsible citizens.
Praising the role of scouts in social development, he said they must play a more proactive role in preventing social ills and raising public awareness. He also urged them to take the lead in maintaining a clean and orderly campus.
The State Minister emphasized that around two million scouts would be engaged in government programmes to support national development and social awareness. He stressed the importance of utilizing scouts’ skills in mentoring, tree plantation and energy conservation initiatives.
Earlier, on April 2, a colourful “Diamond Jubilee Day Camp” was held, with Dr Mir Shariful Islam serving as Camp Chief.
