Shopkeepers want to operate until 8pm
The government has decided to close all shops and shopping malls in the country at 6 pm in the context of the global energy crisis caused by the war situation in the Middle East. However, leaders of the Bangladesh Shopkeepers’ Association have requested Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to reconsider the decision, seeking the opportunity to conduct business until 8 pm.
They want to open their shops at 11 am instead of 9 am, if necessary. But they want to do business until 8 pm instead of 6 pm.
On Friday, in a press release sent to the media jointly signed by Bangladesh Shopkeepers’ Association President Md. Nazmul Hasan Mahmud and General Secretary Md. Arifur Rahman, they requested to reconsider the issue of keeping shops open.
The press release said that an emergency virtual meeting of the association’s standing committee was held on Friday. In the meeting, it was decided to request the Prime Minister to keep the opening time of shops and shopping malls across the country, including Dhaka, from 11 am to 8 pm instead of 9 am, considering the 7 million shopkeepers and 25 million employees.
