NCP leader slams MP Amir Hamza
Tahsin Riaz, Joint Secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has stirred political debate after posting on social media about his coalition partner, Jamaat-e-Islami MP Amir Hamza. In the post shared on Facebook on the night of April 2, Tahsin described Amir Hamza as a “misfortune” for Jamaat, drawing comparisons to the Chinese saying, “China’s sorrow is the Yellow River.”
Tahsin wrote: “China’s sorrow is Huangho, and Jamaat’s sorrow is Hamza (read Amir Hamza).” The remark has sparked discussion across political circles.
Earlier the same day, Tahsin Riaz spoke at a seminar organized by Chhatra Shibir at the National Press Club auditorium, titled “Government Negligence in Implementing Public Referendum Results: Accountability and Responsibility.” He criticized the government for failing to implement the public’s decisions from the referendum, claiming that constitutional processes are being used to undermine citizens’ fundamental rights.
Tahsin also took aim at parliamentarians, alleging that decisions are often restricted to a set framework, making it difficult for ordinary citizens to challenge structured government processes.
He warned that the country is entering a “second phase of curtailing voting rights” under the guise of constitutional and parliamentary procedures.
The controversy around Amir Hamza intensified recently after a 90-minute video surfaced, in which Hamza made remarks about attendees at a government event in a highly derogatory and controversial manner, referencing women and officials in inappropriate terms.
Tahsin Riaz’s comments have reignited debate over political decorum and the role of MPs within coalition alliances, highlighting tensions within the ruling and opposition parties.
