Heatwave District: Chuadanga sizzles at 38.5°C
Chuadanga is reeling under an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring and daily life becoming increasingly difficult. A sudden rise in temperature has triggered a moderate heatwave across the district, causing severe discomfort, especially for day labourers and transport drivers working under the scorching sun.
On Thursday, the highest temperature in the district was recorded at 38.5 degrees Celsius, with humidity at 34 percent, further intensifying the heat. Just a day earlier, on Wednesday at the same time, the temperature stood at 36.3 degrees Celsius, and the sharp increase within a day has added to public suffering.
According to Jaminur Rahman, acting officer of the Chuadanga First-Class Weather Observatory, this is the first time this season that the temperature has exceeded 38.5 degrees Celsius, and the ongoing moderate heatwave may persist for the next few days.
Meanwhile, extreme heat has caused road surfaces in different parts of the district to soften and melt, particularly in front of the municipal office in the town.
The situation has been worsened by long queues at petrol pumps due to fuel shortages, forcing motorcyclists to wait for hours under the blazing sun, with many falling ill. One motorcyclist, Sumon, said he had been standing in line since morning and was feeling sick due to prolonged exposure to the heat. Day labourers are also facing severe hardship, as many are becoming ill while working under the intense sun.
A labourer named Malek said the heat makes it almost impossible to work, but he has no choice due to the need to earn a living, adding that the midday sun feels unbearable.
