BD earn hard- fought victory

Bangladesh Hockey team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory against Chinese Taipei Hockey team in their first Pool-B match of Asian Games Hockey Qualifier was held at Bangkok in Thailand on Thursday.

Chinese Taipei’s Chi Husan scored a field goal in the fourth minute of the match to give the team the lead.

In the 15th minute of the match Bangladesh equalised with Chinese Taipei by Ashraful Islam’s goal from a penalty corner.

Bangladesh took the lead over Chinese Taipei by Ashraful Islam in the 22nd minute of the play.

In the third quarter, Amirul Islam scored a goal from a penalty corner in the 34th minute to establish control over the match for Bangladesh.

Amirul won the top scorer award at the Youth Hockey World Challengers Cup recently.

He has also maintained his specialty of scoring goals from penalty corners in Bangladesh Hockey team.

Bangladesh got three more penalty corners in this quarter, but could not increase the gap.

The third quarter ended with a scoreline of 3-1. The fourth and final quarter was extremely dramatic.

Chinese Taipei put Bangladesh under pressure by winning three penalty corners at the beginning of the quarter.

Bangladesh managed to withstand the pressure and in the 59th minute, Deen Islam Emon scored from a penalty corner to make Bangladesh lead 4-1.

In the same minute, Taipei’s Chi Husan scored to reduce the gap to 4-2. 14 seconds later, Taipei scored another goal from a penalty corner, which brought the excitement back to the game.

Bangladesh managed to finish the remaining 50 seconds with great caution and left the field with a victory.

A total of nine teams splitting into two pools are taking part in the Asian Games Hockey Qualifier.

Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan are in Pool-B, while Indonesia, Oman, Hong Kong, Thailand and Kazakhstan are in Pool-A.

Bangladesh’s next match is against Sri Lanka today.
