IGP seeks Ireland’s support for Police

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir on Tuesday requested Ireland’s support to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the Bangladesh Police.

The IGP made the appeal during a meeting with Irish Ambassador to Bangladesh Kevin Kelly at Police Headquarters. He highlighted ongoing reform programmes and modernization initiatives, stressing the importance of international cooperation in strengthening law enforcement.

Ambassador Kevin Kelly expressed Ireland’s interest in boosting cooperation between the two countries’ police forces.

The discussion included potential areas for technical support, training, and knowledge sharing. Both sides exchanged views on police reform, community policing, and other issues of mutual interest to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.

Senior police officials attended the meeting, during which the IGP briefed the Ambassador on various activities and reform initiatives undertaken by Bangladesh Police.

The dialogue reinforced Bangladesh’s commitment to advancing professional policing standards while exploring avenues for international collaboration to ensure public safety and effective law enforcement.

The IGP also highlighted the growing challenges faced by the police, including urban crime management, cyber security threats, and disaster response coordination.

He emphasized that collaboration with countries like Ireland could provide valuable expertise and resources to address these challenges more effectively.

Ambassador Kelly assured that Ireland would explore opportunities for joint training programs, exchange visits, and technical assistance.

He praised the efforts of Bangladesh Police in implementing reform initiatives and expressed confidence that closer cooperation would benefit both nations in improving policing standards and strengthening public trust.
