UGC orders Univs to provide free Wi-Fi within 60 days
University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has decided to instruct all public and private universities to take necessary initiatives to ensure free Wi-Fi facilities within the shortest possible time.
The decision was made during a meeting held at the UGC office on Wednesday.
It was further informed that the issuance of the formal directive in this regard is currently in its final stages, reports media.
During the meeting, it was initially decided to instruct university authorities to ensure free Wi-Fi facilities in the libraries, common rooms, and cafeterias of every public and private university within the next 60 working days.
Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) will provide cooperation in implementing this initiative.
It was also stated that these facilities would eventually be expanded to include residential halls and other educational and research infrastructure within the universities.
UGC Chairman Mamun Ahmed provided the necessary guidelines to relevant officials from the UGC, HEAT project, and BdREN to develop student-friendly digital infrastructure across the country’s higher education institutions.
The meeting was attended by UGC members Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Md Saidur Rahman, Masuma Habib, and Mohammad Ayub Islam, UGC Secretary Md Fakhrul Islam, ICT Division Director Md Omar Faruk, HEAT Project Director Asaduzzaman, and BdREN CEO Mohammad Tawrit, alongside other relevant officials.
