Fuel crisis triggers panic, long queues in Nilphamari
The ongoing tensions and conflict in the Middle East, involving the United States-Israel alliance and Iran, have begun to impact Bangladesh’s northern district of Nilphamari, causing severe disruption in fuel supply across the region.
According to local sources, although there are more than 25-30 fuel stations in Nilphamari district, most have remained closed due to supply shortages and public panic. Only 2-3 stations are operating on a limited scale, leading to long queues of motorcycles, private cars, and other vehicles stretching for hours.
The scarcity of fuel has created widespread frustration, with reports of unrest in several areas. In some cases, agitated crowds allegedly attacked and vandalized fuel stations after failing to obtain fuel.
Law enforcement agencies have been deployed at certain stations to maintain order while limited fuel sales continue. However, due to inadequate supply, vehicles are often served at intervals of 2-3 hours, resulting in massive crowds and prolonged waiting times for consumers.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Jyoti Bikash Chandra stated, “There is a fuel shortage across the country.
We are conducting regular monitoring. If any pump owner attempts to create a syndicate, immediate action will be taken through mobile courts.”
Amid this situation, the commoners is facing severe hardship and has urged the authorities to restore normal fuel supply as soon as possible.
