‘Max preparations taken to ensure smooth Eid journey’
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock and Tangail-5 lawmaker Sultan Salauddin Tuku on Wednesday said the government has taken maximum preparations to ensure smooth travel for homebound people ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
He also expressed hope that, due to effective management and coordinated initiatives, there will be no major traffic congestion on highways during this Eid journey.
The state minister made these remarks while talking to journalists after visiting the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge Highway in the Elenga bus stand area this afternoon.
Tuku said highways are being monitored round the clock so that homebound travelers do not suffer during the Eid holidays and fasting people are not forced to break their fast on the road.
He added that with the beginning of holidays in the garment sector and other industries, around 40 lakh additional people are expected to use this highway from Wednesday, reports BSS.
He noted that so far no traffic congestion has been reported on any part of the highway and traffic movement remains normal.
To keep traffic flowing, law enforcement agencies are actively deployed in the field, he said, adding that police are on alert at important points.
The state minister said senior officials are also directly supervising the situation, and party activists are assisting the police on the roads.
Responding to a question, he said that although people faced traffic congestion in the past due to mismanagement, this time the situation is largely under control thanks to advance preparations and constant monitoring.
Rezaul Karim Mallick, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police of Dhaka Range, and Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Superintendent of Police of Tangail, among other officials, were present.
