Ministers fill in for PM
The government has assigned responsibilities among senior ministers to oversee key functions in the absence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, according to an official notification issued on Tuesday.
Under the decision, Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will be in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office during the premier’s absence, while Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has been entrusted with responsibility for the defence, cabinet division and armed forces division in relation to parliamentary affairs.
Both ministers confirmed the development through separate posts on social media early on Wednesday.
In his statement, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said he would carry out duties related to the Prime Minister’s Office during the absence of the Prime Minister.
Similarly, Salahuddin Ahmed said he had been assigned responsibilities concerning defence, the cabinet division and the armed forces division for the same period.
The decision was formalised through a gazette notification issued on Tuesday, outlining the temporary distribution of responsibilities to ensure continuity in government and parliamentary functions.
Officials said such arrangements are made to maintain administrative and legislative continuity whenever the Prime Minister is unavailable.
