Bhatara OC transferred over online gambling allegations

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has transferred the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhatara Police Station, Md. Imamul Haque, to the DMP’s Development Division over allegations of online gambling transactions worth Tk 3.2 million.

On Wednesday, an office order signed by Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar directed Imamul Haque’s transfer, although the order did not mention any reason, reports media.

Earlier, on February 20, a post was made on the verified Facebook profile of investigative journalist Zulkarnaine Sayeed of Qatar-based Al Jazeera.

In the Facebook post, it was stated that unusual transactions were detected in the personal mobile banking account (01712254***) of Bhatara Police Station OC Md. Imamul Haque.

Most of the funds, transferred between December 20, 2025, and February 5, were reportedly spent on online gambling.
According to the information, the following amounts were traced: Tk 455,000 from a bKash/Nagad shop behind Bhatara Police Station; Tk 259,500 from Constable Amjad’s mobile number; Tk 691,629 from Constable Saddam’s number; Tk 138,080 from Nasim’s number; Tk 214,000 from Madina Agent House; and Tk 290,850 from a person named Khalek. Additionally, Tk 634,910 and Tk 549,120 were transferred from “Laundry Pickup and Drop” and Mizanur’s number, respectively.

It is alleged that the OC used these funds via the API system to gamble online.

Regarding the allegations, Imamul Haque claimed that his mobile phone had been hacked and that he has no connection with online gambling. He has filed a General Diary (GD) at Bhatara Police Station concerning the matter.
