Abbas critically ill 2nd brain surgery underway
A second round of brain surgery is currently underway for Mirza Abbas, a political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and a member of the BNP Standing Committee, who is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
The first surgery began at 3:00 pm on Friday (March 13) and ended at around 6:15 pm.
Considering physical complications, a second phase of brain surgery
began at about 6:30 pm. As of the time of writing this report, the second operation is still ongoing.
Doctors said that depending on his post-operative condition and if his physical state improves somewhat, he may be taken to Singapore for advanced treatment.
The family has already completed all necessary preparations, including arranging a special aircraft (air ambulance) for transporting the patient.
Family members said that Mirza Abbas suddenly lost consciousness on Wednesday while drinking water during iftar.
As his condition deteriorated rapidly, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital that same night.
Earlier today (Friday) at noon, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the hospital to see Mirza Abbas.
He spoke with the doctors on duty and inquired about the overall progress of his treatment. His family and party have requested the nation to pray for his recovery.
