Mobile court fines bakery for violating BSTI standards

A mobile court conducted by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined a bakery in Rajshahi for producing and selling food items without proper certification and in an unhygienic environment.

The mobile court, organised by the BSTI Rajshahi Divisional Office, was carried out in Rajshahi city around 12:30 pm on Thursday.

During the drive, Messrs National Bakery, located in the BSCIC Industrial Area of the city, was fined Tk 10,000 for producing and marketing biscuits, bread and cakes without obtaining the mandatory BSTI quality certification. The establishment was also found using the BSTI standard mark illegally on product packaging while operating in an unhealthy environment.

The mobile court was led by Executive Magistrate SehrinTabassumTithi of the Rajshahi District Administration. Engineer Junayed Ahmed, an officer of the Certification Marks Wing of the BSTI Rajshahi Divisional Office, served as the prosecutor during the operation.

Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police were present during the drive to assist the operation.
Officials said such drives will continue regularly in Rajshahi to prevent food adulteration and ensure the supply of quality food products for public health protection.
