Tigers notch up massive win over Pakistan in 1st ODI

Bangladesh Cricket team notched up a massive eight-wicket victory over Pakistan Cricket team in their first One Day International (ODI) cricket match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Wednesday.

Chasing Pakistan fragile total of 114 off 30.4 overs, the Tigers romped home making 115 for the loss of two wickets when they had 209 balls to spare.

Speedster Nahid Rana played the key role in demolishing Pakistan innings grabbing five wickets in the space of 24 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Bangladesh had a modest start as opener Saif Hassan (4) was caught at the point by Shamyl Hossain off Shaheen Shah Afridi when the hosts’ total was 27.

After Saif’s dismissal, opener Tanzid Hasan and one-down Najmul Hossain Shanto mended the innings contributing together 82 runs for the second wicket partnership before Shanto was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan off Mohammad Wasim when the home side’s score was 109 for the loss of two wickets.

Shanto scored 27 from 33 balls including five fours.

Adter Shanto’s departure, Tanzid Hasan and second-down Litton Das helped their side to reach the victory target. Saif Hassan remained unbeaten with 67 runs.

His 42-ball innings was belted with five sixes and seven fours.

Mohammad Wasim and Shaheen Shah Afridi got one wicket each conceding 24 and 35 runs respectively.

Earlier, Pakistan had a good start with two openers Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat put on together 41 runs before Sahibzada Farhan was caught at the point by Afif Hossain off Nahid Rana.
Farhan made 27 from 38 deliveries with four fours.

After Farhan’s departure, Pakistan lost their wickets in regular intervals. They failed to build any notable partnership as Bangladeshi pacers and spinners dominated Pakistani batters.

Right-arm spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz captured three wickets instead of 29 runs, while left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman and right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed picked up one wicket each giving 18 and 29 runs respectively.

Six-down Faheem Ashraf fought back against the tight and controlled and superb bowling attack of Bangladeshi bowlers.

Faheem Ashraf hit a notable 37. His 47-ball innings was belted with six fours and a sixer.

The second ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan will be held tomorrow at the same venue. The match will kick-off at 2:15pm (Bangladesh Standard Time).
