AFC Women's Asian Cup: BD finish mission, concede defeat to Uzbekistan

Bangladesh Women’s Football team finished their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup mission after tasting a 0-4 goals defeat to Uzbekistan Women’s Football team in their third and last Group-B match at Perth Rectangular Stadium in Australia on Monday.

As a result of this loss, Bangladesh’s chances of reaching the quarter-finals were also over. As a result, the team have to return home empty-handed.

Bangladesh women trailed the first half 1-0. Uzbekistan took the lead in the 10th minute of the play, putting pressure on Bangladesh with one attack after another.

Diyorakhon Khabibullaeva put the Uzbeks ahead with a perfect finish from a great attack.

Head Coach Peter Butler made three changes to the team from the previous match. However, Bangladesh faced Uzbekistan’s attack from the beginning.

Goalkeeper Mile Akter blocked several attacks with great skill at the beginning of the match.

She was also awarded a yellow card for fouling an opponent player outside the box while blocking an attack.

In the 23rd minute, Maria Manda made a great tackle to save the team from a sure goal.

Bangladesh had two good chances to equalise in the first half. In the 31st minute, Ritu Porna Chakma’s powerful shot from outside the box was blocked by Uzbek goalkeeper Maftuna Janimkulova.

And in the 42nd minute, Kohati Kisku could not capitalize on the opportunity created by Tohura Khatun.

After the break, Bangladesh increased the pace of the attack with the aim of regaining parity. But Uzbekistan took advantage of fatigue when they failed to score.

Forward Dildora Nozimova doubled the lead in the 62nd minute from Umida Zoirova’s pass. Four minutes later, she scored again to make the team’s lead 3-0.

Bangladesh played some aggressive football towards the end of the match but failed to score. On the contrary, Nilufar Kudratova scored in the 88th minute to make the score 4-0. Goalkeeper Mile tried to block her shot but failed.

In the end, Bangladesh had to leave the field with a big loss. With this defeat, the red-green team ended its AFC Women’s Asian Cup mission.
