BERC increases flight fuel rates for March
Air travelers and airlines face higher costs as Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) implements a new jet fuel pricing structure for March.
According to a commission notice issued on Sunday, the price of jet fuel for domestic flights has been set at Tk 112.41 per liter, a sharp increase of Tk 17.29 from February’s rate of Tk 95.12.
For international routes, on the other hand, the price has been adjusted to $0.7384 per litre, up from $0.62 in the previous month, marking a hike of approximately $0.12 per liter.
The regulator said the adjustment was based on the average Plats rate in the international market from Feb 5 to Mar 4.
The commission also factored in the US dollar exchange rates during LC settlements by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and the shifting costs of diesel.
The revised rates also consider changing transport fares for coastal tankers and tank Lorries used in fuel distribution, the BERC noted in its statement.
This monthly adjustment follows a framework established on May 13, 2025, after a public hearing.
A specialized committee, formed on May 25 last year, monitors global price volatility, currency fluctuations, and domestic logistics costs to recommend monthly price updates.
Following a review of the committee’s latest recommendations and a formal hearing, the commission approved the new rates for March.
The full order detailing the breakdown of the price hike will be available on the BERC website.
