Women not getting due respect in society Rangpur DC
Women are still not getting due respect in society due to the lack of advanced thinking and awareness, said Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan.
Government officials and women rights activists expressed the opinion at a discussion held at the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in the city on Sunday.
The district administration and Department of Women Affairs jointly organised the event in observance of the International Women’s Day-2026.
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan was present as the chief guest at the discussion with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Romiz Alam in the chair, reports BSS.
In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner said the development of the country is not possible by leaving women, half of the country’s population, behind. Women are making important contributions at all levels of society, he said.
“It is not enough to bring about equality between men and women, but the backward women of the society should be properly utilized to ensure economic development,” he added.
Regarding the government’s initiatives to prevent violence against women, he said that women in remote areas are still being constantly oppressed.
In order to provide support to these women, the government has launched legal aid services in every district where oppressed women get free legal services.
There is a need for widespread publicity about this service in marginalized areas as well.
Regarding the social degradation of women, the Deputy Commissioner said that the country is now moving towards progress and prosperity.
“The womenfolk should have to join this economic development of the country as fellow travelers,” he said, and called on all concerned to ensure a safe future for women and girls to enrich the family, society and the state.
Rangpur Additional Superintendent of Police Md Joynal Abedin, Deputy Director of the Women’s Affairs Department Mst Seloara Begum and representatives of various women’s organisations delivered speeches as special guests.
At the end, food items were distributed among the members of the victim families of the July Uprising martyrs.
