Mamunul seeks judicial probe into ‘polls engineering’

Khelafat Majlis chief Mamunul Haque has called for a judicial inquiry into what he called “planned engineering” in last month’s parliamentary polls.

Speaking at a regular meeting of the party’s central executive council at its Purana Paltan office on Saturday, Mamunul said that emerging data and allegations suggest the electoral process was manipulated.

“The information coming to light regarding the 13th general election proves it was a blueprint for election engineering,” said Mamunul.

The Khelafat Majlis leader specifically pointed to recent media remarks attributed to Syeda Rizwana Hasan, a former advisor.

Her comments regarding the exclusion of certain Islamic parties from the “mainstream” serve as a confession of a pre-planned decision to influence the polls, he said.

“Her statement clearly proves that a conspiracy was hatched from within the interim government to interfere with the electoral process and alter the people’s mandate,” Mamunul claimed.

He demanded that Rizwana and others involved in the alleged engineering be questioned and investigated, reports bdnews24.com.

The general election, held on Feb 12, 2026, saw a landslide victory for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), while Khelafat Majlis secured only two seats. Mamunul expressed his frustration over what he termed the government’s reluctance to implement the results of the national referendum.

He alleged that instead of honouring the public’s “clear verdict”, the authorities are shifting the responsibility onto the judiciary.

“The filing of a writ petition in the High Court to cancel the referendum is an insult to the public will and goes against the spirit of the 2024 mass uprising,” he said.

Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis announced a mass rally scheduled for Apr 24 at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
