‘Mile lot like Elvis Presley’

Bangladesh made their debut in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup against China on Monday.

Bangladesh’s Goalkeeper Mile Akhtar made her debut in the national team jersey in that match.

Bangladesh ultimately lost to Chaina 2-0, but Mile’s dazzling goalkeeping is being widely praised.

Bangladesh Women’s team Coach Peter Butler has commented, the young Goalkeeper is very similar to American legendary singer Elvis Presley, he said, at a press conference on Thursday ahead of the Korea match.

Praising Mile, Butler said, ‘Mile is a lot like Elvis Presley, she has a great style. Her hairstyle is the best in this tournament.

We were talking about it this morning. She has been waiting for her chance for a long time and the only reason she hasn’t played before is because we haven’t had any matches.’

‘We didn’t have a warm-up match for 90 to 100 days before the China match, which is unfortunate. I don’t have to give any excuse for this decision (taking Mile into the XI).

I think there is a big problem with goalkeeping in Bangladesh football, which needs to be worked on.

It’s not my job to do that; what I can do is to find new players and be brave enough to give young players like Mile a chance.

‘Buttler added, Praising Mile, the Bangladesh’s Coach said, “She deserved this opportunity because she has height (5 feet 6 inches), good hands and a great character.

Most importantly, she comes from a disciplined environment; because, she is a soldier and many people don’t know this.’

Bangladesh will play against North Korea today and Uzbekistan (9 March) after China in the group stage. Mile Akhtar may be in the Coach’s plans for these two matches as well.
