Health Minister urges new doctors to stay out of politics
City Desk :
Health Minister Sardar M. Shaokat Hossain has advised new doctors not to get involved in politics in the greater interest of the country’s population.
He made the remarks on Sunday at the induction ceremony for doctors admitted to the residency programme at Bangladesh Medical University.
The Health Minister said that 81 percent of students believe politics hinders their education.
He urged teachers not to put political pressure or flow on them, and to make arrangements for them to focus more on research.
He further stated that there is no end to learning in the medical profession. Reading books alone is not enough; one must learn by practicing medicine and treating patients. Doctors must be humane, maintain good behaviour, and speak to patients with a smile. The minister commented that many patients from the country go abroad for treatment, and doctors’ behaviour shares responsibility alongside medical care.
He added that they have a Prime Minister who does not take flags on cars, works from the secretariat, and walks to office. Regarding proposals for molecular labs and doctors’ residences, they will discuss with the Prime Minister and take measures.
Additionally, he expressed interest in working on the proposal for a 66-acre project of Bangladesh Medical University.
